More Than 20 Years of OB/GYN Experience
At my law firm, the Law Office of Steven R. Edmondson in Houston, I provide more than just legal advice. I am also a board-certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist (OB/GYN). I have more than 20 years of experience successfully delivering babies and caring for mothers throughout Harris County.
As an actively practicing OB/GYN, I am aware that roughly one or two per thousand babies suffers from Erb's Palsy. I also understand the emotional and painful rehabilitation that will be required to help your child. I am dedicated to helping parents achieve appropriate compensation to cover their child's life-long medical costs. I can evaluate your case from every angle to identify and prove medical malpractice or OB/GYN negligence.
Catastrophic Effects of Erb's Palsy
Erb's Palsy typically is associated with difficult or prolonged deliveries that result in Shoulder Dystocia and Brachial Plexus injuries. When a baby's shoulders become stuck during a vaginal delivery, doctors have several options. One is to apply pressure or traction to the baby's head to help maneuver the infant out.
When too much force is used or the procedure is conducted in a negligent manner, the child may suffer permanent damage to nerves in the neck, known as the Brachial Plexus. These nerves control our shoulders, arms and hands. Complications can include:
- Clavicle fractures
- Shoulder, arm or hand paralysis
- Loss of muscle control
- Permanent nerve damage
Negligent Supervision
If your child was delivered by an intern or resident, your claim may involve allegations of negligent supervision against a teaching hospital. I can evaluate your child's delivery to assess whether correct procedures were followed and correctly implemented. If not, we can file a claim against the hospital, medical personnel and supervisors.
